In 2015 Creative Dorset commissioned a report which formed the first stage of a project looking at supporting the development of the visual arts in Dorset. The research, framed under the title of the ‘Dorset Visual Arts Marketplace Project’, was been funded by Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership, Arts Council England, West Dorset District Council, Visual Arts South West and Big Picture.
The research investigated the potential for an integrated approach to working with the private and public sector to raise the quality; profile and economic benefit of the visual arts offer in Dorset and support both cultural tourism and marketplace development.
During the research period the authors consulted more than 50 individuals representing both key elements of the current visual arts sector in the Dorset LEP region and also future potential partners in the creation of strategic approach to raising the profile and impact of the visual arts sector in the region.
